Good Flour for Your Customers, Good for the Planet: Molino Naldoni’s 2024 ESG Results

Every bag of flour tells a story. In this article, we take a closer look at Molino Naldoni’s 2025 Sustainability Report, which reflects our performance throughout 2024. We want to explain what lies behind our choices: in numbers, but also in simple words. Because everyone who works with our flour every day deserves to know.

Those who work with flour know that quality can be seen,and felt, in the dough. But there is another part of the story that cannot be touched with your hands: how that flour was produced, where the wheat came from, and what impact it had on the land before reaching your bakery or pizzeria.

Every year, Molino Naldoni publishes its ESG Sustainability Report, a document that transparently measures and reports how the company performs in relation to the environment, its people, and the wider community. This year’s results make us particularly proud, and we would like to share them with you directly, without corporate jargon.

Sustainability Report 2025: Key Figures from 2024

1.Milling Responsibly Without Costing the Planet

Producing flour requires significant energy. Molino Naldoni mills approximately 450 tons of wheat every day; a process that demands expertise, dedication, and considerable resources. The challenge is doing it responsibly. Part of the answer lies in where the wheat comes from. In 2024, 40% of the soft wheat processed by Molino Naldoni originated in Emilia-Romagna, often from farms located less than 100 kilometres from our mill in Faenza. Fewer kilometres travelled means lower transport emissions. It also means supporting local farmers and strengthening regional supply chains.

This commitment extends to Mulino Scodellino, a project we have proudly supported for years together with other local partners. Located in Castel Bolognese, in the province of Ravenna, this historic watermill dates back to 1398. Today, just as centuries ago, it is powered by water—now complemented by a photovoltaic system. It is here that we produce our limited-edition Romagna Type 2 flour, preserving traditional milling heritage while embracing modern sustainability practices.
Small actions, perhaps. But together they form a commitment that grows stronger every year.

2. People First: Inside and Outside the Mill

In 2024, despite a slight decline in turnover compared to the previous year, Molino Naldoni made a deliberate choice: investing more in its people. Personnel costs increased from €1.6 million to €2.1 million for the company’s 40 employees. That is not just a figure on a balance sheet: it is a statement of values. It means that when conditions become more challenging, people remain the priority.

The results speak for themselves:

• Zero workplace accidents in 2024.
• Supplementary healthcare coverage for all employees.
• Strong female representation, particularly in office roles, where women account for 13 of the company’s 20 office staff.

Our commitment extends beyond the mill itself.

Throughout the year, Molino Naldoni supported schools, associations assisting elderly people and individuals with disabilities, and continued its involvement in the Campus dei Campioni project—a 21-hectare park in San Lazzaro di Savena that will become a major green space for the Bologna metropolitan area.
Through the renewal of our participation in Legambiente’s Eco-Natale initiative, our support also reaches children living in areas of Eastern Europe affected by nuclear contamination, helping provide concrete assistance where it is still needed today.

3. Transparent Governance: Because Trust Is Built Over Time

Sustainability is not only about the environment or social responsibility. It is also about how a company is managed; the standards it sets for itself, the controls it implements, and the transparency with which it operates. In 2024, Molino Naldoni adopted the Italian Organisational Model 231, a compliance framework designed to promote ethical conduct and prevent legal and operational risks. The company also introduced a confidential whistleblowing channel, enabling employees to report concerns and irregularities safely and transparently. In addition, Molino Naldoni renewed its Legality Rating, the certification awarded by the Italian Competition Authority to companies that demonstrate high standards of ethical and responsible business conduct.

The outcome of these efforts was significant: an EcoVadis Silver Medal with an overall score of 68 out of 100, placing Molino Naldoni in the 87th percentile globally among all companies assessed.
